“Our Special Needs son Lance loves the water but after years of trying, we could not get him to relax to float, put his face in the water, or kick his feet in the pool or lake. He would only hold on very tightly to the adult holding him. Coach Amy worked with Lance to expand his comfort zone with patience, love and constant encouragement. Coach Amy knows just the right ways to motivate Lance to keep him engaged without pushing too far. Lance can now hold onto the side by himself, float on his back with assistance, hold onto the paddleboard with minimal assistance and kick his feet, blow bubbles with his mouth, and he will even walk through chest deep water to get to the stairs or side of pool. Thanks Coach Amy for helping Lance to enjoy the water more and we look forward to seeing even more progress working together. You are the BEST!” M.K
"Our boys are 9, 11 and 12 and have been on summer swim team for several years. After spending just one semester in Coach Amy’s swim class focusing on stroke technique, we finally saw real improvement in their strokes. We love how she meticulously works at helping them improve their strokes. She often walks the length of the pool as they swim to better pinpoint areas that need improvement. Our boys feel more confident, they are doing better in swim competitions and becoming, overall, stronger swimmers. We are grateful to Coach Amy for sharing her love of swimming and her expertise! " C.L.
" Coach Amy- I just wanted to thank you so much for your work with my kiddos! We tried MULTIPLE swim teachers and programs over the years, and you are the first one to help my kids make consistent progress - and have them be excited to go to lessons every single time! I so appreciate your patience with my boy’s motor coordination and focus issues, and I knew from the first lesson that you just “got” what he needed. Swimming is such an important life skill and we are just so grateful to have found you as our swim instructor. " K.H.
"My sons have been taking from Coach Amy for 1.5 yrs and they adore her!! She is patient and kind and just the right balance of instruction to fun. My kids went from being afraid to put their faces in the water (ages 3 and 5) to being able to be "dropped" to the pool floor and swim the width of the pool. We originally started in order to increase water safety and are staying because she's built confidence and can also help with stroke proficiency. Amy is a real pro who "gets" kids of all needs - what a blessing to find this expert for my kids!" - Traci L.
"I can't believe it took me this long to write a review. Coach Amy is incredible! We have been working with her for a few months now and my 2.5 year old daughter has improved on her swimming so much. She shouts "ready" when she wants to jump in, can jump into the water and swim to the nearest wall, can float and turn, hold her breath and probably some other things I'm currently forgetting but all in just a few months of lessons! My daughter adores her and once she's in the pool (toddlers can be iffy) she has a blast. She comes to our house for lessons currently and we are so excited that she can continue teaching my daughter in an indoor swimming pool over the winter. Highly recommend!" C.S.
"Coach Amy is great! My daughter went from terrified without her float to excited & swimming in a few weeks." - Jessie C.
"My son Eli was born with a visual impairment and has several differences that hold him back from learning as others do. He’s always loved the water but never as a swimmer or even going under water. He is 16 now, has always had an aversion to putting his face in the water and swore he would never enjoy that part of swimming. It wasn’t until lessons with Amy gave him the courage, but now he has pure joy when playing above and below the surface of the water!! Can’t thank you enough, coach Amy!" S. H.
"My son has worked with Coach Amy for 3 summers privately plus one school year in group technique and fitness. In that time we've gone from a lousy crawl to all 4 competitive strokes legal. Acquiring good technique has always been challenging for my son due to motor coordination challenges. We've worked with a lot of swim coaches - both groups and private for about 13 years (YMCA, city of RR, Nitro) with 2 kids. Amy is not only tops in competence but she has extensive experience with all kinds of swimmers, and she really personalizes the instruction to the child. She's persistent. She knows how to get the strokes legal to progress. She communicates with solid instruction - clear verbal and beautiful demonstrations. She can teach general swimming and then zero in on your areas needing improvement. This summer was pure stroke coaching for us. Next year we plan to work on diving technique. My son likes her a lot. What more could I possibly need? A coach with a big collegiate competitive swim background? She's that too - and a lot more. I can't say enough good things about Coach Amy because I'd write a book. No matter what level your swimmer, you should definitely try to work with her and see if it's a good fit." - Maria
"Amy was very patient and kind when giving Michael (who is autistic/nonverbal) swim lessons. She understood how to communicate with him and teach him how to swim. He loves the water and can now swim and enjoy the water without a life jacket. We now can enjoy swimming as a family!!"-S.H.
"Our daughter has been working with Amy for two years. When we started she was very frightened of the water. She is now confident in the water and loves to float on her back and swim to the wall! Amy is very patient, knowledgeable and great with kids. We love Coach Amy! - Megan H."
"Coach Amy is amazing with kids. My 3 year old got over her fear of getting her head wet in just a few sessions and is now swimming short distances all by herself! Highly recommend especially for timid swimmers!" - L.M.
"My teen-aged daughter M has been swimming with Amy Linkous for a couple of years. M has multiple disabilities including the inability to speak, substantial sensory processing and motor planning issues, and seizure disorder. Amy has been a marvelous teacher for M: patient and sensitive to her needs and preferences, extremely respectful of her autonomy and agency and careful to learn her way of communicating, and also very savvy in gently pushing to ever greater achievement and skill-building tailored very specifically to M’s needs. M has flourished with Amy’s instruction — I couldn’t imagine a better swim teacher than Amy! - M's Dad"
"Coach Amy is fabulous! My son has been working with her throughout the summer to learn and refine his strokes and techniques. He looks forward to every session and can't wait to practice what he's learned. We will definitely be taking more sessions with her, and we highly recommend her for all swimmers." - D.R.
"We have been amazed at the progress our 6 year old son, Caden, has made in such a short period of time! We had previously completed several swim lesson sessions with absolutely no progress and Caden's continued discomfort of water. Last summer, we anxiously began lessons with Amy just as our backyard pool was finished and ready for swimming. Caden tends to be pretty sensitive and has some sensory issues and Amy knew exactly how to get him comfortable and confident in the water. Within two lessons, Caden was able to swim enough to get himself to the side of the pool. One year later, Caden loves to swim and is a fish in the water! Thank you so much, Amy! He could not have gotten this far without you!"- Dana G.
“Amy was absolutely instrumental in helping our daughter overcome her fear of swimming in the deep end of the pool. Amy’s great sense of humor and never-ending patience, while nurturing our daughter’s confidence, turned a previous bad experience into one where she felt like she could swim in the deep end again. We are very grateful we reached out to Amy when we did, and have enjoyed watching our daughter build the skills she needs to overcome her fear.“-Joe and Joanna T.
"We took lessons with Coach Amy this summer and the girls did so well! My 4yo and 2yo took lessons together and Coach Amy was so great with the both of them. The girls learned a lot and their confidence level in the water has improved so much. We really enjoyed working with Coach Amy and will be taking lessons with her again next summer!!" - J.T.
"Coach Amy is great! I have been so pleased with the progress my kids (4 & 6) have made in only six lessons. My daughter, 4, has gone from not wanting to put her head underwater to looking forwarding to going to her lessons and “seeing if Coach Amy has painted her toenails” underwater. Coach Amy is patient and consistent with the kids and they love going. I love that they are learning how to swim and learning proper form and safety from the start." -T.G.
"Amy is fabulous. She has given stroke lessons to all three of my kids and to my niece. Amy is highly skilled and knowledgeable when it comes to stroke technique. Most importantly she is wonderful with kids of all ages. I highly recommend Amy."-A.T.
"Amy is a great swim instructor whose years of experience shows in her style of teaching. She sincerely and patiently worked with my kids while motivating them to achieve their goal." - G.S.
